I can finally say that I am really proud of something I’ve done for college this year! Gareth and I did this shoot yesterday on the beach for my final project, which will be 15 images from this set blown up and printed 11×17. I am really pleased with how they came out! I styled the shoot, did my make-up and everything. I’d been planning it for a few weeks and bought the props on ebay, and they worked out super nicely. I was really excited when I found the hourglass, it’s vintage and brass with really interesting horoscope inscriptions on it.
The idea of my project was to pull symbolism from old paintings and artworks, I chose momento mori (the skull), the hourglass representing time, and the lilies representing life.
The title of my project is “No balance of elements in this world.” It is a quote from a Ghalib poem. I found it really fitting.
Here’s the rest of the poem:
Ghazal 13
No meetings no leavings
no days nights no years
Who has time to deal with love
no more delight in beauty’s witness
Love is every imagined beloved
no more such graceless thinking
Weeping blood is not so easy
I have no strength no stable heart
My loving arms have turned feeble
no balance of elements in this world
Today is Gareth’s first day at work so I am at home by myself for the first time in forever! It will be nice to be able to clean and organize etc. and just relax today.
Love,
R
